Something each betta breeder and owner should know :)

(my blog maskot Aurum ;) didnt know he had perfect scaling and masking until now XD)
lost him to dropsy ;) a sweet fello, never harm a female

I've been keeping fishes ever since i was little
they are one of the most unique creatures of the world
they live in an underwater paradise where we could only dream of living in.
Now fishes are being very popular because of their beauty and rarity.
But out of their beauty we have forgotten their true personality ;)

They may be an apple of one's eye but they themselves have their own personality
they like us have sadness and happiness
like us they feel pain
getting to know your betta's personality is not something nonsense :3
trust me...you'll find something very outstanding ;)

This a very special Copper red Super Delta :)
Not only is he my first SD
he is very special

He is the secret to all my breeding success
its because he is the best foster parent there is ;)

Every breeder knows that not every pair can be very successful in caring for fragile eggs
I used to have a very horrible pair where the female kept eating eggs and the male has no interest in egg caring ><
I thought it would be a total nightmare for the eggs with the male abandoning the eggs

On the same time, my copper red had his own batch of eggs to care for so i placed the abandoned eggs in his tank
without hesitation he quickly picks them up and placed the eggs with his 2 days old eggs :)

I was very amazed with his behavior so I began experimenting

When he was done taking care of the eggs until both of the batch is free swimming I placed him back in his regular tank
Like a real parent he cant stop making some bubble nest for some fries even if I separated them from him
So a few days later I had another pair abandoning their eggs
knowing this batch wont be able to survive since i had no other batch going on

I decided to placed the batch of eggs in the copper red's tank
I though he would just eat is as its not his and he is not in a parent mode
But then he started to pick the eggs n make a larger bubble nest for them
I was really amazed with him

He is bred just once but he had taken care of countless batch of abandoned eggs
this is one very special fish ;)
I had yet to find one like him :3

I lost him to Swim bladder disease about a year later.

We should always try and learn our betta by observing their behavior :)
who know maybe u might find one that is as special as my big boy :)

and please Dont try throwing eggs in another males tank
they might eat it

hope you all appreciate your dear bettas :3 because they are just the sweetest creatures on earth
that packs a punch XD

The Sarawak batch feedback :3

hye everyone :3
its been a while :)
classes are soooo packed ><
during our practical we have to dissect fishes for parasites
and test food quality and all
:)
I am soooo loving my course.

alrite back to my fishes
they are really sweet feeding on sinked flakes :D
somehow dey dont like floating foods :/
one of the large ones is starting to develop some black patches of scales :(
this is a big nooonooo :(
its bad to have bettas tht develop black scales when they are not suppose to
so this will not be good for breeding
dont worry :) Im keeping em.
noticed the little guy up here :) ^

I had him in a separated tank since he is a lot smaller than the larger two
and is always bullied by them.

Recently, my fishes had some illness
where this little guy was rubbing the tank floor as a sign of discomfort
since he is small, its hard for me to check him for any sign of diseases.

So to be safe
I had all three of them bathed in a aquadine general aid special bath for 15 mins
(its actually better to bathe them in a formalin bath but this is what i got ><)

after dat, I cleaned the both the tanks
Its a good thing that bettas are hardy fishes
they can easily tolerate a sudden change in water :3

a few minutes later after the process
:)
they are doing a lot better
no more rubbing on the tank floor or
swimming around weirdly..

Well that's all for now :3 see ya later

Microworms (MV) a lazy person's best fry food ;)

(all pics is courtesy of Google, the info is me :) )

What in the world is Microworms??

microscopic worms that are just the right size for newborn fries :)
in other term-
the easiest meal that is easy to maintain,
easy to feed,
and is always available ;)

Why Microworms over Baby Brineshrimp?

i'd pick microworms

woahhh3 hold ur fire :3

yes3 brine shrimp is the best but
trust me
hatching them takes time and patience
and time is GOLDDD XD

soo microworms are the best when you are lazy :3
slide ur finger at the worms n put your finger in the fry tank
and done!
your fry is fed :3

How to get these tiny creatures from a fry's heaven :0?

of course you wont find them in 7 eleven
or your regular petshop ><
(if you do find them sold in petshop please share :3)

you'd have to order the starter pack online
here

usually they will give you instructions on how to culture them :)

How to culture microworms ?

How to culture:-
-starter pack
-bread
-some yeast
-a container
- few drops of water :3

Steps:
-place bread in container
-sprinkle one pinch of yeast on the bread
-the moist the whole thing with a few drops of water
(moissst so not to much water ok)
-pour all the stuff in the starter pack on the bread :)
-make sure to poke a small hole on the lid of the container or just loosen the container
(to make sure no flies get in)

or not there will be maggots in the microworm culture like this
(yuckkkk>< i hate it...so I feed them to the adult bettas who really loves em :3)

How to feed fry microworms?

(an example of a niceee culture :3)

you see moving stuff on the walls of the container?
look closely :3
thats your microworms
they tend to climb the walls of the container thats why you need a lid>,

now how do you get those things on the wall to the fry tank?
easy

take your beautiful finger :3 swipe it on the wall and put the finger in the tank :D

ahahaha easy and awesomeee

Tooo yucky to touch??
dont worry :3
you can swipe it with a COTTON SWAB and dunk it in the tank

SEEEE :D its SOOOOO SIMPLE

happy feeding

Saturday 31 March 2012

Spawn Log= male Super Red HMPK X female Orange Dragon HMPK (day 4)

hye everyone =3
the fries are doing really great
I removed da big daddy yesterday since they
can swim by themselves already
*bye2 papaa..
^living room is soo comfy so I set up everything here =3

I placed a sponge filter because the surface of the water is
kind filled with scum
fear of my fries dying of suffocation
I put it in and they seemed happier =D
^swiiimmmmmmmm meh babieess =D
I actually just fed them bbs cause it just hatched><
left them day 3 with no bbs
but its okay =3
since I put plants in the tank
the fries might eat some rotifiers
I saw them eating though =D
*saavedd by rotifiers
^orange bellies a sure sign that they love em =D
^my cat Caramel envy me giving all my attetion towars the fries ><

will update again soon =D

Feeding fry Baby Brine Shrimp (BBS / Artemia)

Yes Brine Shrimps =)
one of the best food to feed any fry
it is also widely used in aquaculture

instead of the easy culturing microworms
bbs is more suitable for betta fries =D
because the newly hatched bbs has a higher nutritional value
rather than the all time favourite microworms

true....true...microworms are a life saver when bbs is not around
but feeding fry with only microworms makes them grow pretty slow =/
the first time I spawned my bettas I fed them microworms
Yeah I know they love it and they crave for it =3
but it takes them about nearly 4-5 months to reach a young adult size =(
veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerryyyyy slow

in my opinion its best to feed the fry bbs since its highly nutritional =D
ofcourse u can feed them microworms
but only when you are waiting for your bbs to hatch
there is actually a lot of ways to hatch bbs but I'll just explain to you how I do it =D
The Set uP

                             1. Air pump
                             2. Air line tubing
                             3. a 2-litre bottle / or something that can hold up 2-litre
                             4. Aquarium salt or any salt ( I use normal kitchen salt =D)
                             5. Brine shrimp eggs (ofcourse.....)

The..Placing it Together =D

I just do it like this
^just an example
1. pour 2 litre of plain water
2. add about 2 tablespoon of salt
3. ade a teaspoon of bbs eggs
4.  place the air line tubing n start =D
then just wait 24 hour
badabing badabom DONE
to make sure its done
just turn off the Air pump n wait for the eggs to settle
then you will see this crawling n moving on the bottom
 ^those are delicious bbs =D
congratulations!you have newly hatched baby brine shrimps
The Harvesting
after jumping around in excitement that your bbs is hatched
preparee~...
                               1. Air line tubing
                               2. Syringe
                               3. Coffee filter or a brine shrimp net

ok now use a syringe and an air line tubing to do this
(^its easier =3)
^ attach the air line to the nozzle of the syringe
^the supplies =3

the light is used to attract the bbs...observe
^dun worry if you thibk thats a little >< coz its only 1-litre n I used
a pinch of bbs eggs coz I currently have only one spawn so I dont need that many

then suck all the orange swimming bbs =D
*careful do not suck the bbs eggs
your fry might get swim bladder disease if consume it in large amount
after sucking all that orangy moving thingy =3
pour it over a coffee filtre to drain the salt water

^nyummmy =D
than place the bbs into a cup with aged water which will be safe for the fry
the viola your food is ready to be served =D
syringe this delicious meal n drop it in the fry tank
make sure you do it drop by drop
you dont want the fragile fry to get hurt =)
now there you go
fry will be all full with adorable orange bellies XD

^fat rounded orangy fries =D
